It’s through
the initiative and foresight of many contributors, including the Da
Vinci Science Center, Air Products, Lehigh
Valley Hospital and Health Network, Ford Motor Company, the Department
of Transportation and LANTA, that the hydrogen fuel bus program
is a reality today.
The program supports the U.S. government’s initiatives to advance transportation and energy technologies that support the reduction of our country’s dependence on foreign oil and are better for the environment.
Air Products has leased two hydrogen internal combustion engine (ICE) buses from Ford Motor Company. These hydrogen ICE vehicles bridge technology from today’s gasoline engine to tomorrow’s fuel cell vehicle. One vehicle is being used as a shuttle bus on our corporate campus in Allentown, Pa., and the second vehicle is being used by the Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest campus as transportation for employees and visitors. Both buses are also available for community outreach programs in order to demonstrate and promote hydrogen as an alternative fuel technology.
