So how exactly do our advanced hydrogen-powered buses work?

The Air Products hydrogen bus runs on a hydrogen internal combustion engine. It’s a Ford 6.8-liter Triton™ V-10 traditional combustion engine modified to run on hydrogen, rather than gasoline. The big difference is it delivers up to a 99.7 percent reduction in CO2 emissions.

The bus has a 26-gallon equivalent hydrogen fuel tank with a range of up to 150 miles. Which is plenty since we have the new state-of-the-art hydrogen fueling station right here in the Lehigh Valley on the Air Products Campus.

Hydrogen fuel is safe. It’s colorless, odorless and nontoxic. You know what? It’s also the most efficient of all the fuels currently in use.

How do we get the hydrogen? Air Products reforms it out of natural gas for our station. But you can also separate it from water using an electrical current. Did you know our own sun uses hydrogen as its energy source? Now that’s a bright idea!

Here's a preview of the video that plays on the bus. Enjoy!
